SmartFlexx® Solution for Wilfried Martens Building

If you regularly leave Brussels via rue Belliard, you have probably already spotted the colourful building of the European Parliament: the Wilfried Martens building! Gia Systems developed an advanced system with presence detectors that meets the highest possible energy efficiency.

This 30,000 m² office building on the corner of rue de Trèves (Trierstraat) is built with high energy efficiency and has a BREEAM Excellent certificate. In collaboration with Interalu, Gia Systems has designed presence detectors that are specially adapted to the Interalu SAPP® ceilings. SAPP® (Smart Acoustic Passive Power) is a “new generation” climate ceiling for buildings that strive for the highest standards of sustainability and ecology. Gia Systems presence detectors are discretely installed between the slats to respect the open structure and the unique clean design of the climate ceilings.

The original design by Matriciel from Louvain-La-Neuve and TPF Engineering provides for a consumption of 7 Watt/m² lighting. Gia Systems’ solution ensures maximum user comfort, energy savings and flexibility without using bus communication. The user controls the installation via the infrared channel of the detector. Thanks to the plug-and-play system with dimming function, offices can be flexibly arranged and the finishing of offices can be adjusted to suit your needs.

Thanks to our many years of experience and our knowledge of building management systems, pluggable installation and electronics, we have developed a unique solution with our own R&D department that combines all important lighting functions. We are proud that we were able to realize this in the short term and for such a large project!
